Eco-Tones
An ecotone is a transitional zone between two ecological communities, as between a forest and a river. An ecotone has its own characteristics in addition to sharing certain characteristics of the two communities and often has the most diversity.
Pictured here is a Vesica Piscis, the central shape that is created when two circles intersect. Also called a Mandorla ("almond" in Italian), it is the Mother of Sacred Geometry. The overlapping of each "one" circle creates a "two" that acts as a portal between the Monad and all the rest of the numbers. This is the lens through which Unity balances with the Many.
Imagine one of these circles to be a forest, the other is a lake. The ecotone is the vesica piscis where the two meet and overlap; it is where we find the most diversity. Organisms come into being here that cannot exist in the water or forest alone. A "tone," in musical context, is made by creating a fixed vibration. If each of these circles is a tone, the place where the sound waves come together creates a certain harmonic resonance. Harmony suggests a balanced diversity of sound.
Eco-Grooves Splashin' Day Camp
with Magic Mama, Eco-Edu-tainer and Mizizak Kayaks
Magic Mama will be teaching a day-camp this Friday, August 21st at Cornell Lake in Wisconsin. During this program, we will make musical instruments using recycled materials, kayak around the lake and groove on the water. We'll experiment with rhythm and sound waves, learn about ecotones and listen to Earth's music. Anything can be a musical instrument, stretch your creativity and your strength during this four hour day-camp led by Magic Mama.
Friday, August 21, 1-5 PM
Cornell Lake
$25 per person (ages 9 and up)
