Leaf Mulch
Leaves make good lunch...for the garden. Actually, the worms eat them, the mycelium develops colonies amidst them, the leaves soon become rich soil. Rather than drive a car to a chain store, spend money on plastic bags, pay for a dump truck to haul away the bags filled with leaves and spend more money on fertilizer, try creating an area to compost the leaves!
It's not difficult and it's free, the ultimate model of recycling and nature knows best. Trees drop their leaves which compost, enriching the soil which feeds the roots of the tree. Take a look at the three arrows in the recycle symbol. They just keep going around don't they? Turns out, we already have what we need to create healthy soil, no chemicals needed. Good soil produces delicious food, beautiful flowers, lush trees and shrubs. So, rake to your heart's content, jump in a big crunchy pile, then find an unfrequented area of the lot to leave those leaves alone for awhile. It will make the earth smile!
