DIY Rainsticks

Here's what you will need to make your own rainsticks from recycled and natural materials:
Cardboard Tubes
(we get ours from a fabric store) - saw them in half
Hammers (one for each artist)
Nails with a broad head,
(a bit shorter than the diameter of the tube)

Scissors
Fabric Scraps to cover ends of tubes
Packing Tape
Popcorn Seed or Small Beans
Rubber Bands
String, Ribbons, Magazines, Sticker other decorations

Pound nails into the tube

Cap one end of the tube with fabric, use a rubber band to hold the fabric in place.

Put a few handfuls of seeds into the tube

Cover the open end with your palm, tip the tube to test the sound of the seeds. You may want to add more nails, more seeds or take some seeds out to change the sound.

When you are happy with the sound, cap the other end as you did with the first and tape over the rubber bands and fabric.

Now you get to decorate the tube. Be sure to cover all the nails so they don't fall out.
