A week gone by
A whole week has passed since I was last able to get online and update my post. The internet is really patchy here, works best at about 6am and only supports 3 devices at a time. There are several volunteers here now, all using the net as their primary form of communication. I tend to be helping with food and childcare in the mornings as well, and we all try to get to work on bigger projects right after breakfast. I had originally hoped to post something every couple of days! So, today I am saving farm work until after lunch. I have to just claim a niche or we end up working on projects, housekeeping and childcare duties until dark.
We designed and constructed a recycling station
Feeding the animals is an on-going, daily project. We created signs and buckets for composts to correspond with each group of animals so folks know what scraps to put in which bucket. I regularly corral the kids to deliver food to the animals, check to make sure they have water and occasionally, shovel poop to feed to the trees.
Feeding the rabbits - conejos
Then, up the hill to feed the chickens (who are now free range - thanks to some remote collars used to train the dogs - I brought special batteries from the U.S. for those).
Then, up the hill to feed the goats
Last bucket-full, gifted to the Earth
A jump on the tramp, with empty buckets, before heading back down to the main house
Albiz rocked the weed whacker all day, now you can see the spiral balancing stumps
Happy Free-Range Birds! Outside the bunny fence
From inside the main house, El Gallo!
First time since our first day here - taking a short break from work (about 20 minutes) to enjoy the little waterfalls along the creek on the land here:
Indigo had an encounter with some barbed wire - hence the hooked scrape on her nose
With all the cattle around here, there is barbed wire hiding everywhere and camouflaged by vines and sticks
My first moment in the hammock with my journal - got about one and a half pages in before I was needed somewhere for something else.
Indigo's self portrait in the bus mirror
This one's for Reb - who gifted me with the beautiful journal and is caring for our snake while we're here - Thanks Reb!
One of the many amazing birds here - this one likes to eat little chile peppers!
