WQOW News 18 Interview with Magic Mama

Interview with Steve Betchkal, Eau Claire (WQOW) - Noise pollution. There's so much of it out there. Full video interview at www.wqow.com

Jets screaming overhead. Cars roaring past. Always a radio blaring – music and lyrics -- sometimes ugly lyrics – that talk about nothing, promote nothing but violence and hostility.

Whoa! I sure could go for a little peace and sanity!

That's where Kjersten (pronounced Share-sten) Hallin (pronounced Hal-een) comes in.

As her "alter-ego" Magic Mama, she criss-crosses the globe bringing words and music of joy, perseverance, and food justice to the hungry souls of the world.

Well…something like that…

Can't a guy wax creative?

Kjersten is the Mother of All Peace Pirates. Her day job is raising up organic vegetables and performance art. While we interview in her yard-turned-prairie garden there are cicadas happily buzzing. A piping Osprey soars overhead. Butterflies do loop-de-loops about us. It's as if there's sanctuary up on the East Hill, a place where we can all go to seek a new way of doing business, of living better and smarter.

Kjersten claims that magic is a "shift in our consciousness." Well shift your head around this: her car is fueled by grease, she greases her music with lively rhymes that both kids and parents can dig, she'll dare you to sit still, and she'll challenge you to rethink convention.

What are the origins of Cat Hats? How do cheese puff bags serve as musical instruments? Does she pull rabbits out of Cat Hats?

Shy child to Wild Child. Magic Mama, In Person. She gives hip-hop a good rap. Only on WQOW News 18.
