Go Barefoot Lyrics

Last week, I had the honor of being a guest songstress for an international webinar hosted by USA Girl Scouts Overseas and in collaboration with Melinda Caroll.  I offered 4 songs, one I had just learned the previous week at a music gathering on the Big Island of Hawaii, "Belle Mama" is originally from Torres Straight Island.  "Senwa Da Dende" is from Ghana and I learned it in a song circle in Wisconsin along with a newer one called "One Heart Beating" by Sue Kirkpatrick.  The fourth was a version of my song, "Go Barefoot" which I perform a cappella with a loop machine.  I taught the primary 4 loop layers, the chorus and the first verse.  Following are the lyrics for the entire song for those of you who wish to elaborate; I enthusiastically encourage the addition of new verses!  I would love to hear any that you come up with ~ pass them along if you wish, may be we'll get to record a new version!

4 foundational parts:
This little piggy, this little piggy went
This little piggy, this little piggy went
Barefoot, ya go barefoot, ya go barefoot, ya go bare
Barefoot, ya go barefoot, ya go barefoot, ya go bare
(clap/clap) Whatchya-ka, Whatchya-ka, Whatchya-ka
(clap/clap) Whatchya-ka, Whatchya-ka, Whatchya-ka
OOH, AHH, TSS, HOT!
OOH, AHH, TSS, HOT!

Chorus:
Whatya gonna do? Go Barefoot. Whatya gonna do? Go Barefoot. Whatya gonna do? Go Bare - Go Where?

GO BAREFOOT! Ya go barefoot.

Verse 1
Way down yonder in the paw paw patch, in the paw paw patch where the grickle grass grows
Kick your shoes off fast, just try to make it last
Fuzzy moss, like floss as it tickles your toes.

Verse 2
Hot sand on the beach burns the bottoms of your feet
Run to the lake to get relief  (you can use shade, or sea)
OOH AHH TSS HOT!

Verse 3
Neighbors honk their horns, mini vans goin toot-toot
in the front lawn in your tutu and your swim suit
runnin so fast, doggy doo in the grass - EW!
Whatya gonna do?

Go Barefoot

Bridge
Barefoot sticky under cottonwood
tricky thicket underfoot
prickly sticks'll snatch yer hood - good!
In the midnight, moonlight, wish you would just like
the deer could - right?
The owl take flight, outta sight!
Wish I may, wish I might
Go Barefoot!

Verse 4
Mama can we go now, mama can we go now, mama can we go
can we go to the creek? YES!
Steppin on bees running through the white clover
red rover, red rover send water right over
your head - let's go swimming instead!

Verse 5
Mama can we go now, mama can we go now, mama can we go
can we go to the store?
Better cover your stubby toe if ya wanna go
to the store - barefoot'n no more.
